Recording

Recording . . .

Recording (a.k.a. tracking) is the art of capturing raw audio information to either an analogue or digital medium for later reproduction.

Tracking is the foundation of any great production. While a large amount of the recording process does depend on technical wizardry and the equipment used, the most important piece to the puzzle is of course, the performance captured. Therefore, before ever going to select the best-suited mic for the application, my top priority is to create an environment that puts the performers at ease, promoting a natural and free-flowing performance.

On the other hand, the technical specifications are central to how that performance is captured. Having worked with a wide range of high-end microphones, pre-amps and other signal processors, I am conscious of their suitability to particular tasks. Furthermore, I am cognizant of how mics interact with both their direct sound source and the acoustic environment in which it resides. Having a catalogue of miking techniques aids in faithfully capturing your intrinsic sonic character.
