Stagehand . . .
In live audio, the stagehand is involved in the setup of audio equipment on stage. These responsibilities may involve load-in/ load out, miking the musicians and their instruments, the setup of monitoring systems, etc.
Having worked as part of large audio technical team in the past, I understand that teamwork and good communication skills are every bit as important as technical knowledge. Obviously, ensuring that the performers are comfortable with their equipment set-up and environment will allow them to focus their full attention on their performance. Accordingly, one of the most important aspects of live set-up is maintaining a neat and organized environment. Being an industry that’s totally dependent on the equipment used, a system malfunction during a live show can be an
overwhelming experience, creating a sense of panic for the entire audio team, which makes it infinitely more difficult to combat the problem effectively. Having been confronted with such situations in the past, I am confident that by maintaining a neat workflow and that allows for easily retraceable steps enables problems like this to be resolved in an efficient manner. Furthermore, this level of understanding and control over the equipment reinforces the audio crew’s ability to remain composed under the stress of such events.
