Before ever becoming involved in audio on a professional level, I was serving as road crew for my father’s numerous bands since the age of twelve. Initially, I was recruited to give a helping hand with loading in and out some of the lighter gear and taking care of drink orders while they performed. However, I became more and more involved in the technical aspects of their set-up as time went on.
A bona fide gear-head, learning about the operation of the equipment was an enthralling experience. However, the most important aspect of this early learning experience was being made aware of ‘good practices’ and conventional protocols in live sound – an invaluable skill set that has proven effective in every live sound scenario ever since.
